Condition Assessments on Fire Damaged Generators
As Wabtec service agents, Royston Australia were engaged by a client to carry out a full condition assessment of two 12V250 engines damaged in a fire to determine if they could be either salvaged or were beyond economical repair.
Workscope
We worked through a set procedure for each engine. First was an external visual inspection from all angles and then conducted a thorough internal inspection. Crankcase doors were removed for inspection of crankshafts, pistons, and liners. Rocker covers and injectors were removed for rocker assembly inspection and cylinder borescope inspection. And ultmately turning the engine over to make sure it still runs safely.
Result
After completing this process for each engine, we produced a detailed condition assessment report, which the client then presented to their insurance provider.
As the assessment ascertained both engines were repairable, they were then subsequently overhauled in our workshop in Henderson and returned to full service.
