Royston Australia Provides Client with OEM Alternative Solution
Royston Australia were approached to provide two technicians for 14 days to carry out repairs and maintenance on a fleet of Wartsila 16V26 medium speed engines onboard an ultra deepwater semi-submersible drilling rig situated off the coast of Broome, WA.
As genuine alternatives to the OEM, with technicians readily available and with extensive medium speed engine experience, Royston Australia quickly mobilised two experienced technicians with BOSIET and OGUK medicals to the offshore platform.
Achieving the Goal
Once on board, Royston Australia technicians commenced the removal of cylinder heads on one of the main engines which had multiple leaks, thoroughly cleaning all components and mating surfaces before replacing all gaskets and seals to ensure no further leaks. Additional work involved camshaft inspections, crankshaft deflections and replacement of generator couplings before carrying out run-up testing, full load testing and commissioning.
During the 14 days on board, minor repairs and maintenance were carried out on a further six engines and all returned to service to the satisfaction of the client.
Partnering in Success
Keeping the clients onshore Technical Superintendent updated daily and scheduling work for the next day allowed effective planning of the crew on board and provided reassurance that the job would be completed on time and on budget.
