Wabtec Engine Restoration for Nickel Mine
Royston Australia has played an integral part in maintaining power station engines at a West Australian nickel mine for the past five years so, when a fire broke out, our team was tasked with carrying out full condition assessments of the engines, to see if any could be salvaged.
After identifying two Wabtec 12V250 engines we believed could be rebuilt, we began the process, consulting with Wabtec engineers along the way. One engine was half built at our Henderson facility and sent to site early for completion. This transportation process required careful handling to avoid dirt or grit gathering inside, and another round of inspections upon arrival. The other engine is close to being rebuilt.
Sourcing parts from overseas at short notice was difficult in the current climate but, as Wabtec spare parts and service agents, we were able to do this. This was helped by our existing good client relationship that saw us get to site quickly after the fire to begin the restoration process.
